Atomic Layer Deposition of LiF Thin Films from Lithd, Mg(thd)2, and TiF4 Precursors

Lithium fluoride is an interesting material because of its low refractive index and large band gap. Previously LiF thin films have been deposited mostly by physical methods. In this study a new way of depositing thin films of LiF using atomic layer deposition (ALD) is presented. Mg(thd)2, TiF4 and Lithd were used as precursors, and they produced crystalline LiF at a temperature range of 300–350 °C. Morphological, electrical and optical properties of organic light-emitting diodes with a LiF/Al cathode and an Al-hydroxyquinoline/diamine junction

Abstract We report the results of the morphological, electrical and optical characterisation of double-layer Alq3-based organic emitting diodes with a lithium fluoride (LiF)/Al cathode. A detailed electron microscopy investigation of their cross-section shows the presence of LiF isolated grains underneath the Al film. Due to the introduction of the LiF layer, luminance was larger than 30,000 cd/m2 at a bias voltage VB=25 V with a maximum external luminous efficiency as large as 46 lm/W at VB=20 V. Tunable field effect properties in solid state and flexible graphene electronics on composite high – low k dielectric

We demonstrate tunable field effect properties in solid state and flexible graphene field effect devices (FEDs) fabricated using a poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) and lithium fluoride (LiF) composite dielectric. Increasing the concentration of LiF in the composite dielectric increases the capacitance, which thereby reduces the operating gate voltages of FEDs significantly from 10 V to 1 V to achieve similar conductivity. Electron and hole mobility of 350 and 310 cm2/V at VD = −5 V are obtained for graphene FEDs with 10% LiF concentration in the composite. Up-conversion process in erbium doped lithium fluoride bulk crystal, lithium borate glass and glass ceramics

In our research the up-conversion processes in Er doped bulk LiF crystal, lithium borate oxyfluoride glass and lithium borate oxyfluoride glass ceramics were studied: up- conversion and traditional photoluminescence spectra, the up-converted signal as a function of the laser power are presented. It was found that sharp luminescence bands in the visible part of the spectrum appear when the bulk crystal is subjected to IR irradiation at 980 nm by a laser diode. Depth profiles of hardening in lithium fluoride irradiated with swift58Ni ions

The changes of hardness and dislocation formation in LiF crystals irradiated with 630-MeV 58Ni ions up to a dose of 20 MGy were studied by microindentation and dislocation etching techniques. Above the threshold fluence of 2 × 1010 ions/cm2, a marked effect of hardening, which is related mainly to damage processes in the track core, has been observed. Its magnitude depends on ion fluence and energy loss. To investigate the depth distribution of hardening, indentation tests on crystal cross sections cleaved parallel to ion flux were performed. It has been found that the hardness change along the ion path correlates with the ion energy loss and reaches the highest value at the Bragg maximum. …

Enhanced interfacial lithium storage in nanocomposites of transition metals with LiF and Li2O: Comparison of DFT calculations and experimental studies

Abstract Me/LiX nanocomposites (Me – transition metal and X = F or O) exhibit extra lithium storage, with pseudo-capacitive behavior and high-rate performance. While LiX surface layers or the interfacial core serves as hosts for extra Li, atoms of contacting transition metal serve as electron sinks, depending on Me electronegativity. To verify the mechanism, we have performed comparative DFT-LCAO calculations on the polar Ti|Li|Li2O(111) and non-polar Cu|Li|LiF(001) interfaces with extra Li atoms inserted inside both 2D interfaces, gradually changing their concentration. Hardening and long-range stress formation in lithium fluoride induced by energetic ions

Abstract LiF crystals were irradiated with Au, Pb, Bi and S ions in the energy range 400–2300 MeV and studied by means of Vickers microindentation. Remarkable hardening effects are observed which depend on the applied fluence and ion species, and correlate with the ion energy loss along the ion path. Structural investigations reveal irradiation-induced stress extending deep into the adjacent non-irradiated crystal and leading to the formation of dislocations. X-ray diffraction measurements of the irradiated crystals show a decrease of the lattice constant indicating the presence of internal stress.

The article describes an experimental method that allows to estimate the inhomogeneous and homogeneous linewidths of the photoluminescence band of a point defect in an amorphous solid. We performed low temperature time-resolved luminescence measurements on two defects chosen as model systems for our analysis: extrinsic Oxygen Deficient Centers (ODC(II)) in amorphous silica and F+ 3 centers in crystalline Lithium Fluoride. Measurements evidence that only defects embedded in the amorphous matrix feature a dependence of the radiative decay lifetime on the emission energy and a time dependence of the first moment of the emission band. Evaluation of the relative thermoluminescence efficiency of LiF:Mg,Ti and LiF:Mg,Cu,P TL detectors to low-energy heavy ions

Abstract The most popular types of LiF-based thermoluminescent (TL) detectors, LiF:Mg,Ti (MTS-N) and LiF:Mg,Cu,P (MCP-N), have been investigated, with respect to their dose (fluence) response and relative TL efficiency to different ion species. The detectors were irradiated using the nitrogen, iron, krypton and xenon ion beams, at energies ranging from 5.0 to 9.3 MeV/n. Supra- and sublinear response was found, for the MTS-N and MCP-N, respectively, similarly as observed for γ-rays.
